Tandem Circuit Breakers

A tandem breaker puts two single-pole breakers in the space of one, so a full panel can take another circuit, but only in panels and spaces listed for tandems. We carry Square D QO tandems, Siemens Type QT and tandem AFCI breakers, and Eaton tandems.

Will a tandem fit my panel?

Check the label inside your panel door. It shows whether tandems are allowed and in which spaces. Most modern tandems are Class CTL breakers, built to fit only those spaces. Like any breaker, a tandem must also match your panel's brand and type.

Tandem, double-pole or quad?

A tandem gives two separate 120 volt circuits in one space. A double-pole breaker gives one 240 volt circuit across two spaces. A quad puts two double-pole breakers in one unit: see our quad breakers. More in what is a tandem breaker.

AFCI tandems

The Siemens Q1515AFC and Q2020AFC put two combination AFCI circuits in one space; the N versions are plug-on neutral.

Installation

Breakers are installed inside a live electrical panel. Have a licensed electrician do the work.
